Soft56 & V.92 (Updated 17-Jun-01))
Driver versions starting with 3.x may include some V.92 capabilities.
This is what I have learned thus far with the 3.05.02 driver:
Some V.92 commands are "implemented" but don't work. I'm uncertain at this time whether it's because V.92 isn't fully implemented (the driver files appear to have been written by Conexant in December 2000), or if Conexant is employing a method to prevent a modem that wasn't sold with V.92 capabilities from using V.92 features.
Note that the 3.05.02 driver appears to support only data/fax models, and a 'Standard' DAA type. (I would suspect the driver will not work with modems that don't have electro-mechanical relay to take modem off-hook.)
From the .inf file:
Version: 3.05.02
; Capabilities: Data,Fax
; Controller: basic2
; Daa Type: STANDARD
; Codec: 20437
; Hardware type: D420V.92 commands: Using Hyperterminal, indicates there is 'support' for +MS=V92, +PIG, +PCW, +PMH, +PMHT and +PQC commands. (See V.92 commands.) However, all of these commands, except for +PCW=, produce ERROR:
Hyperterminal output:
at&fw2 OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK OK |
Here is the output of AT#UG calling a distant V.92-capable server, and a local V.90 server:
all to V.92 server:
at#ug Call to local IBM / 3Com server: OK |
Also note: The .inf file contains a DSP-INFO section. This same section has been used by vendors to prevent the modem from calling any number other than the ISP bundled with the system. (See - HCF - Modem only calls 1 #)
