Rockwell/Conexant Modem-on-Hold (NetWaiting)
Updated 24-Jun-04

New HCF modems (including some 'HCF' and 'HCF2' provide V.92 support with appropriate drivers. In addition to the modem driver, an additional software 'applet' is required for Modem-on-hold (MoH). For Rockwell/Conexant modems including HCF and HSF, a Conexant has licensed a third-party and the modem vendor should include the NetWaiting MoH applet.

Some users report being unable to take incoming calls with Conexant HCF modem and NetWaiting software. The following init string may correct the problem:

+PSS=0;+PCW=0;+PQC=0
     or
+PSS=0;+PCW=0;+PQC=0;+PMH=0

This may also work with HSF(Soft56) and/or ACF modems as well - if you try this and it helps, please send me feedback!

It is not uncommon for vendors to fail to update drivers or the MoH applet. There may be issues with earlier drivers and releases of the MoH applet.

NetWairing - version 2.5.8 from Dell for Windows 2000 & XP.
NetWaiting - version 2.5.6 from Dell for Windows 2000 & XP.
NetWaiting - version 2.5.3 from BestData for Windows 9x/Me/2K/XP.

The same applet is used for ACF/HCF/HSF modems, but require different settings in the netwait.ini file (earlier versions - named the file Netwaiting.ini). This file may appear in more than one location of your hard drive - the one that controls is in a subdirectory under your \windows directory. (The netwait.ini file in the Program Files does not control.)

Here is the netwait.ini that comes with the Dell version of NW (for internal modems):

Here it is as it should be modified for external (ACF) modems, according to Bill Hill who also posted much of the information on this page in the Tech Support section of anandtech.com forums.
